In most cats, it creates behaviors such as playfulness, rubbing, rolling, and purring. In some cats, on the contrary, it gives a feeling of calmness and comfort. The effect usually lasts for 5-15 minutes, followed by a brief "numbness period". About 70% of cats are sensitive to catnip; susceptibility is genetic. Young kittens (up to about 6 months) are often unresponsive.
